WP3 Update | Cost-Benefit Analysis of Tools and Technologies Progresses in NUTRI-CHECK NET

The cost-benefit analysis (CBA) of tools and technologies identified through the NUTRI-CHECK NET project is now well underway. In recent weeks, technical meetings have taken place, including close collaboration between ARVALIS and its economics department, to refine the methodology and analytical framework.

Key methodological discussions focused on choosing between purchasing power parity (PPP) and a uniform Likert scale to assess income-related factors across different countries, ensuring meaningful comparisons across diverse national contexts.

In collaboration with TEAGASC, the consortium agreed on a four-level structure for the analysis:

  1. Global level (overall perspective)
  2. Category level (aligned with the Plan–Check–Review decision cycle)
  3. Subcategory level (e.g. Soil, Plant, Harvested crop, Software, Technology, etc.)
  4. Tool-specific level, depending on the availability and quality of data

Both quantitative and qualitative indicators will be used, and the choice of indicators may vary depending on whether the analysis is conducted globally, regionally, or nationally.

Next Steps

In the coming weeks, ARVALIS will generate the analysis based on the agreed framework and share it for review. A review meeting is planned for mid-July, after which the consortium expects to finalise the study and submit the report for coordination review.

The project team would like to express its sincere thanks to all partners for their efforts in interpreting the individual cost-benefit spreadsheets and for the considerable work involved in collecting such a wide range of data. These contributions are vital to producing meaningful results that can support improved decision-making for crop nutrition across Europe.
