Delphy Field Visit Highlights Nutrient Planning Strategies for Potato Growers

On August 6th, Delphy, in collaboration with Aviko, hosted a successful potato variety field visit for our clients. The event showcased several potato varieties, all cultivated using best farming practices combined with research insights and our expert knowledge. Attendees had the opportunity to objectively compare the crop development and response to management practices between different varieties.

During the meeting, we explored the various potato varieties in the field and discussed the distinct differences between them. A key focus of the day was on fertilisation strategies and crop yields as part of the NUTRI-CHECK NET project. Together with a large group of potato growers, we examined which manure measures—especially the use of slurry and nitrogen fertiliser—can produce optimal yields. We also looked at how to leverage leaf and soil analyses this year to gain deeper insights into crop growth and development.

The presence of international growers provided additional perspectives, stimulating engaging discussions on how different fertilisers are applied across countries and under varying regulations. This exchange of ideas enriched the conversation about optimising fertiliser use during key stages of the crop’s growth cycle.

The day highlighted the relevance of the Nutri-Check Net ‘Plan, Check & Adjust, Review’ approach to nutrient planning for both Dutch and international potato growers. It was a fruitful and rewarding day, filled with the sharing of practical experiences, all of which were closely tied to our ongoing research efforts.
