The use of recycled digestates from biogas production as fertiliser for agricultural crops is promising. To use digestates it is necessary to assess the quality of the digestates prior to each fertilisation. The chemical composition of the digestates varies considerably depending on the feedstock used and the efficiency of the biogas production process. All types of digestates are suitable for fertilising agricultural crops. The rate of fertiliser application should take into account the amount of nitrogen supplied by organic fertilisers should not exceed N170 kg/ha. As digestates processed in biogas production, especially separated digestates, add a significant amount of organic matter to the soil, it is recommended that they are applied prior to sowing or during the growing season of the crop. This application of digestates should not be a one-off application but should be repeated over several years to begin to show positive results.
