Sustainable Fertilizer Use in Wheat Cultivation

Content Author: AUA

Did you know that improper use of nitrogen fertilizers can lead to significant water pollution? Nitrogen is vital for wheat production, influencing yields and grain quality. To prevent environmental damage while optimizing crop production, it's essential to assess soil nitrogen levels before applying fertilizers. The Kjeldahl Method is crucial for this process, as it measures the "plant available" nitrogen in soil samples. This method involves converting nitrogen into nitric acid, distilling ammonia, and analyzing it volumetrically. The results allow for the creation of a detailed soil map, which can be integrated into smart tractor systems. These systems, equipped with specialized software, ensure precise fertilizer application tailored to the soil's needs. By using this approach, farmers can significantly reduce environmental impacts, conserve resources, and enhance the efficiency of both fertilizers and water in wheat cultivation.
