On February 16th, the Wexford CNC Field Day took place on the farm of CNC member Davy Kehoe in Ballymurn, Co. Wexford. The event, part of the NUTRI-CHECK NET project, brought together farmers and industry experts to discuss key aspects of crop nutrition and sustainable farming practices.
CNC members Davy Kehoe, Philip Rochford, and Nicky Keane were in attendance, along with Teagasc tillage advisor John Pettit. John provided valuable insights on nutrient management for winter wheat (WW), winter barley (WB), and oilseed rape (OSR) for the coming months. He also outlined herbicide options to tackle problem weeds, helping farmers make informed decisions for their crops.
A key discussion point was the nutrient balance analysis completed with Nicky and Davy. This highlighted the importance of tracking nutrient levels over multiple years, providing a clearer picture of soil health and improving long-term sustainability. Events like these are essential for knowledge-sharing and supporting farmers in optimizing their nutrient management strategies.
The NUTRI-CHECK NET project continues to play a vital role in promoting efficient nutrient use and sustainable agricultural practices across Ireland. Stay tuned for more updates and upcoming field days!
