Optimizing Slurry Nutrients with a Hydrometer

Content Author: TEAGASC

Did you know that slurry nutrient levels can differ significantly, affecting crop nutrient management? A slurry hydrometer is a quick and simple tool to get accurate nutrient estimates. By measuring the dry matter in the slurry, it helps determine the right amount of nutrients to apply. Just collect a fresh, well-mixed sample, dip the hydrometer in, and let it settle. If the slurry is too thick, dilute it with water and adjust the readings. Proper handling and cleaning of the hydrometer ensure it lasts long. This tool enhances nutrient management, making agriculture more efficient and sustainable.
